Guaranteeing Access to Affordable Healthcare

There’s a saying that “just because there’s a creak in the steps doesn’t mean you tear down the house.” This is what Republicans in Congress attempted to do with the ACA, a bill that is not perfect, but tearing down the house with no plan to replace it is reckless and wrong.

I believe that access to affordable healthcare is a fundamental right, and that our representatives in Washington have failed us by not working together to improve upon a bill that has provided access to affordable healthcare to millions of Americans, and nearly 300,000 South Carolinians.

Raising premiums on older Americans and weakening Medicare is not the solution, and it shouldn’t have taken the threat of a government shutdown to fund the children’s health insurance program (CHIP).
