Archie Parnell Signs Veterans Compact, First of Its Kind in SC

(SUMTER -- June 13) Archie Parnell, the Democratic nominee in South Carolina’s Fifth Congressional District special election, signed his Veterans Compact at VFW Post 3034 in Sumter today, joined by veterans from across the district.

Addressing issues ranging from VA reform and oversight to providing support to Veterans with PTSD, Parnell’s Veterans Compact is a first in South Carolina and demonstrates his unwavering commitment to serving those who have put themselves in harm’s way in our nation’s service.

“This is personal for me because every time I look at a Veteran, I see my father,” said Parnell whose father was wounded on Palau in the Pacific during WWII. “These men and women never wavered in their commitment to us and they deserve nothing less from us.”

1st Sgt. Michael A. Choice, US Army (Ret.), noted after the signing “I listened to Mr. Parnell and I think he is going to be an asset in helping our military veterans. He’s right about PTSD -- a lot of people take it for granted and a lot of soldiers end up injuring themselves or others later on. They must have counseling.”

Parnell’s GOP opponent, former State Rep. Ralph Norman, has been roundly criticized for mocking those with PTSD on the Statehouse floor during a 2014 debate.
